The Abandoned 4th Floor

The company on the 4th floor went bankrupt recently and left in a matter of days. Since then we’ve noticed that the doors have been left unlocked. I went for a look around and was really moved by all of the personal belongings that had been left behind. There was everything from artboards strewn about and covered in coffee – which had obviously taken a long time, and a lot of effort, to create – to personal belongings such as a teamwork trophy, a shoe, a hat, a scarf and Polaroid’s of family members.

Everywhere I looked there was a mess – the contents of desks had been pushed onto the floor, filing cabinets had been tipped forward and the contents had spilled out all over the floor. Perhaps the signs of defiant employees. Bins were still full and the kitchen still had food in it. There was no electricity but the phones were working, and the aircon somehow rumbled on in the dark. Occasionally I could hear the people on the 5th floor walking around, and I’d get a creepy feeling that ghosts were still busy working here.

I’ll probably go back after the New Year to take some more photos in the morning when it’s light. It was difficult to see anything, and with cables all over the floor it isn’t very safe.
