Nuestra Señora del Rosario in her blue ensemble
The vicaria of the Santo Rosario [replica], is brought out in procession for the first time on an all light-blue ensemble with restored beaded French lace, taken from the traje de boda of Mrs. Angelina Mendoza Díaz viuda de Pérez for her wedding on the 3rd of March 1974.
The traje de boda with its matching 15-foot train was a sentimental piece of dress for our mother, the most expensive dress she remembers she has worn [the heaviest one too], and was one of our father’s gift to her for their pre-arranged marriage.
As a surprise gift for their 32nd Wedding Anniversary in 2006, which proved to be their last together, we had the traje transformed by a talented designer for a day dress of the Virgin. It was first worn by the Santo Rosario on the 8th of September 2006.
Our mother thought it fit and proper that the Santo Rosario be attired with this vestment for our father’s wake and funeral, when his coffin was placed before the image as the Santo Rosario was the symbol which brought them together to the end, with our father dying wrapped in the Virgin’s mantle and clutching a Rosary.
Incidentally, the pearls dangling on the corona imperial of the Virgen & the Niño came from the diadem [made of cloth] worn by our mother for the same wedding.
