The school’s faculty senate passed several resolutions today. The headliner is a vote of no confidence for FSU Presidential Search Advisory Committee Consultant Bill Funk.
"There were 11 candidates who had applied for the position and he didn’t even share those applications with the committee members before asking them to vote no against them. He simply assured them that they were not premium potential candidates," said Buchler

For the FSU presidential search committee, State Senator John Thrasher was the elephant in the room.
The Republican lawmaker was scheduled to get the only interview to become FSU’s president.
Committee members reasoned they weren’t getting enough quality applicants because potential candidates were scared off by Thrasher.
Following that decision, State Representative Michelle Rehwinkle Vasilinda and Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Ricky Polston applied.

Now Thrasher’s interview has been postponed.
"And I’m hoping that there’s increased national interest in the position, that we can have a more traditional process moving forward," said FSU Student Body President Stefano Cavallaro.
"We’re very glad it slowed the process down," said Jennifer Proffitt of the United Faculty of Florida. "The problem is, it’s the same process," she said.
In a statement, search committee chair Ed Burr says "a traditional search process now appears more feasible"
He also stated his "commitment to a process that is wide open and inclusive".
But Proffit says FSU’s model should be more like the University of Florida’s presidential search.
"They changed their criteria to make sure that distinguished academic credentials were number one because they want to move into the top ten," she said.
"I think having a background in academics is an important aspect," Cavallaro said. "But I think the number one thing in selecting a university president is being a leader," he said.
Cavallaro has a vote as a board of trustees member.
Representative Vasilinda says the decision to open up the process is a good one.
Chief Justice Polston declined comment and Senator Thrasher did not respond to a request for comment.

Tallahassee, FL – The chairman of the FSU Presidential Search Committee, Ed Burr, says the application of the chief justice of Florida Supreme Court does not change anything at this time.
Burr says committee members is having discussions with the consultant on how to move forward.
At this time, Burr says Senator John Thrasher’s interviews will go forward as planned.
The next committee meeting is June 11th.

TALLAHASSEE (AP) — The chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court is applying to become president of Florida State University.
Ricky Polston, who was appointed to the bench by former Gov. Charlie Crist, submitted his application for FSU’s vacant post on Saturday.
Polston’s move comes at a time when the frontrunner for the position is state Sen. John Thrasher. A search committee has already voted to interview Thrasher and then decide whether to offer him the job.
FSU has been without a permanent president since Eric Barron left to lead Penn State University.
Polston has two degrees from FSU. In a letter to the search committee he said he is applying for the job out of loyalty to the school and a desire to help the school continue to improve.

The FSU presidential search committee says; "a traditional search process now appears more feasible"
That’s because enough people called them out on their greedy, selfish, don’t give a rat’s @zz about what’s good for FSU sucking up to the Thrash in hopes of him tossing their corrupt @zzes a bone.
"Here’s a milk bone Sandy ! Here’s a milk bone Al !" Sorry boys wake up your dream is over. Not gonna happen.
Guess the FSU presidential search committee thought that if we will cow down to Obama when he pulls that kind of same shizz that they could take advantage of us in the same way.
Sorry FSU presidential search committee you’r not Obama.

Guest, we need choices, transparency, and a willingness of the search committee to consider all potential candidates without regard for what might be the best political decision for each of them. If Thrasher is the best candidate for the job, it will come out after a fair and transparent hiring process. He should have to compete for the top job at FSU just as anyone else would be expected to do. To circumvent the process, just because he’s who he is, would be just business as usual and would make a mockery of the hiring process. Another fiefdom in the making.

Tallahassee, FL – FSU faculty wants its voice heard and so they spoke today.
"The Board of Trustees who will ultimately appoint the next president should take heed and pay attention to faculty and students and staff and administrator voices," said FSU Professor Michael Buchler

The faculty also wants to change the way the search committee conducts the entire application procedure.
"The resolutions the faculty senate passed today are consistent with the message the faculty union has had all along which is that there needs to be changes in the process," said United Faculty of Florida FSU Chapter President Jennifer Proffitt.
Other resolutions include extending the application deadline into early September. That will allow for a short list of candidates to visit the campus and meet with faculty, students and staff. The senate also wants the FSU Board of Trustees to consider the vote count of faculty and students on the search committee when appointing the future president. They also want the search committee to only consider candidates with experience in higher learning.
"By saying we want academics to be the strongest credential we’re making a very bold statement. Also I will point out that we aim to join the group of top 25 public universities. 24 of those 25 public universities have academics – very, very distinguished academics at the helm," said Buchler.
