2. National Pride
I hosted a tea party to celebrate the wedding of the now Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. This photo is ridiculously blurry (probably my worst on Flickr) but I love it as it sums up the day for me. Everyone was completely submerged in excitement and pageantry of a Royal Wedding. We had sandwiches, champagne and LOTS of cake, fab.
The National Pride which emerged on the run up and day of the wedding filled me with joy. I’m a monarchist but I think everyone had something to make them proud to be British that day. I was the only one to put bunting up in the street but it did make other people smile. The person who is at the very right of picture (you can only see her leg and arm) said she was a rampant republican and could she just come for the cake but she had a flag and even teared up! I did go a little Union Flag happy but hey, how often do direct heirs to the throne get married?
My friend’s six year old girl (who came in her flowergirl dress because of course that is what one wears to weddings) made sure we all waved our flags are relevant parts throughout the day.
